Introduction

You will find here a collection of Gimp plugins that I have written for my own use, or for my own amusement.

Some sample images can be found here: https://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-tools/files/samples/. Layers, paths, and saved selections usually have a fairly descriptive name, so that the whole process is fairly easy to understand.

Usage notes

I like to keep my scripts simple and focused, so most scripts here only have simple results that you can further tweak and refine to achieve your own designs.

Python support

These filters are all written in Python and therefore your Gimp installation must have Python support. You have Python support installed if you have a "Python-fu" item at the bottom of your Filters menu, which should be the case if you run Gimp 2.8.

Installation

The plugins are best installed in your Gimp profile (see below).

1. If necessary, restore the extension of the file to ".py" (some over-cautious downloaders can rename the file to ".py.txt")
2. Copy the downloaded .py file to the "plugins" subdirectory of the Gimp profile.
3. On Linux, OSX, and other Unixen, set the "executable" flag on the python file.

The Gimp profile directory

This directory is the root of a tree where Gimp keeps your settings. To locate the Gimp profile directory:

• Start the Python-fu console: "Filters/Python-fu/Console"
• Enter "print gimp.directory" (without the quotes)
• What prints out is the Gimp profile directory
